Why is the Koh-i-Noor diamond so controversial? – BBC News

Camilla, the Queen Consort, will not wear a crown holding the controversial diamond the Koh-i-Noor at King Charles III’s coronation.

It’s a diamond that has passed through the hands of Mughal princes, Iranian warriors, Afghan rulers and Punjabi Maharajas.

The 105-carat gemstone came into British hands in the mid-19th Century, and forms part of the Crown Jewels on display at the Tower of London.

Ownership of the diamond has been disputed, and there were concerns about a diplomatic row with India if it had been used.
