Thailand’s health minister on August 17, 2022, discouraged tourists from visiting the country with the intention of smoking weed. Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalise cannabis for medical use in 2018 and four years later, the entire plant was decriminalised, leading to widespread recreational use. Thailand’s cannabis policy has inspired neighbouring countries like Malaysia to reconsider its restrictions on the plant.
