Protesters clashed with riot police in the Greek capital Athens on March 1, 2023, a day after a train collision left at least 43 people dead. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said a “tragic human error” was responsible for the accident. The passenger train carrying more than 350 people collided with a cargo train near the central city of Larissa on February 28 along a route plagued by years of safety problems. Authorities have declared three days of national mourning.
