Residents of the Zhangjiang Nashi International housing complex in Shanghai were notified on April 14, 2022, that their blocks of flats would be taken over and used as a quarantine isolation site for Covid-19 patients. But after being told that they would have to clear out of their apartments, some angry residents protesting against the move clashed with police. Video posted on Chinese social media showed people being dragged away by police wearing hazmat suits. China’s most-populous city went into lockdown about two weeks ago in response to a spike in cases amid China’s latest wave of Covid-19. While some areas of the city have started relaxing restrictions, a daily record number of cases was reported 12 times over the past 13 days.
