China installs enormous deepwater base structure for oil field in South China Sea

China installed a homegrown 300-metre deepwater jacket called “Haiji 1” (“Ocean base 1”) in the South China Sea on April 11, 2022, according to the China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC). Haiji 1, which is 302 metres in height and weighs 27,000 tonnes, will serve China’s Lufeng Oil Field in Guangdong’s Pearl River Mouth Basin, which has a peak annual output capacity of 1.68 million tonnes of crude oil.
