Could Afghanistan's starvation cause the West to act? – BBC News

Afghanistan’s economy has collapsed and up to eight million people are facing starvation, in what is being described as the worst humanitarian crisis on the planet.

Since the Taliban took power six months ago, they face international isolation for links to terrorism and years of human rights abuses.

However there are growing questions over whether the West needs to change its approach to Afghanistan’s leaders to allow aid to reach its people.

There is food in the markets, but families are being driven to the edge because they simply don’t have the money to buy it.

The BBC’s World Affairs Editor John Simpson reports on how people in Afghanistan are coping.
