Nepal reported 7,587 new coronavirus cases on May 4, 2021, the highest single-day tally seen in the Himalayan country since the pandemic began. In Kathmandu, the epicentre of the nation’s latest outbreak, families of Covid-19 victims had to watch the bodies of their loved ones burn out in the open as temples and crematoriums ran out of space.

Correction: A previous version of this video incorrectly stated that Nepal has seen about 35,000 coronavirus infections so far. The figure has been corrected to reflect that the nation has had over 351,000 cases during the pandemic.
