Zhou Xiaoxuan, also known as Xianzi, became a leading figure of China’s #MeToo movement in 2018 when she took a popular TV personality to court for alleged sexual harassment. In a post on social media, Xianzi accused Zhu Jun of inappropriately touching her while she was an intern on his programme in 2014. A Beijing court later dismissed her case citing insufficient evidence. Zhu Jun has denied the charges and sued his alleged victim for defamation. Undeterred, Xianzi has vowed to press ahead with an appeal, saying her efforts aim to give voice to all victims of sexual assault. Despite multiple attempts, the Post has been unable to reach Zhu for comment.
