Threat of rape still stalks Sudanese refugee women in Chad, say social workers
A lack of resources to support rape survivors has left thousands of Sudanese women with nowhere to turn.
Healthcare and social workers in Chad refugee camps say most cases of rape are not reported for fear of stigma. Pregnancies resulting from such attacks are rarely terminated because of cultural and religious beliefs. Moreover, the victims are often left to deal with the stigma and trauma alone.
