Archaeologists in the city of Xian in China’s northwestern province of Shaanxi have confirmed that the Jiangcun Tomb belongs to Emperor Wen. The exact location of the mausoleum of the famous Han dynasty (206BC-AD220) ruler had been a mystery for thousands of years. But archaeologists who have been excavating the site in Xian since 2017 have found its construction had adopted the same imperial design features found in later tombs for leaders. Artefacts found inside, including official seals and unique figurines, ultimately convinced the team it was Wen’s final resting place.
