Long queues have been seen outside a government-owned liquor shop in Taoyuan, Taiwan, as local Taiwanese people turned up to buy Lithuanian rum rejected by mainland China. While Beijing has denied blocking trade with Lithuania, the European Union says it has confirmed reports from Lithuania that its goods are being held up at Chinese customs. Beijing and Vilnius’ ties have deteriorated in recent months after the country recently allowed Taiwan to open an embassy under the name of “Taiwan”, instead of ‘Taipei’. Earlier, the European nation withdrew from the “17+1 group”, a forum for eastern and central European state dialogue with China.
