Covid-19 Infections involving the Omicron variant have spiked in South Korea where 95,362 cases were reported on February 21, 2022. The nation’s daily case toll had surpassed 100,000 in the three days prior, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 2,058,184. But deaths from the disease have remained relatively low in South Korea, which has managed to get at least two doses of vaccine into the arms of 86.3 per cent of its 52 million people. Despite the surge, authorities are slightly easing social-distancing measures, announcing on February 18 that a curfew on restaurants, cafes and bars would be moved from 9pm to 10pm. Other anti-pandemic rules will remain in place until at least March 13, after a national election set to take place on March 4.
