Anti-war protests continued in at least 48 cities across Russia on February 27, 2022, as demonstrators defied authorities to show their anger over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. More than 5,900 protesters in Russia have been arrested in three days, according to OVD-Info monitor, a human rights monitoring group that tracks political arrests. The demonstrations came after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a “special military operation” in Ukraine on February 24, sending Russian military into Ukrainian territory to attack major cities in the country, including Kyiv. Fighting continues, with Russian attacks encountering stiff resistance from Ukrainian soldiers and civilians.
