A major study by the UN climate science agency says that the world’s current energy policies have put the planet on a fast track to climate disaster. Referring to the report published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on April 4, 2022, that governments around the world must implement deep, across-the-board emissions cuts to achieve the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7°F) to avoid catastrophic effects from climate change.
