A 37-year-old Chinese man who was abducted at the age of four has found his biological mother by drawing a map of his home village strictly from memory. Li Jingwei was taken in 1989 by a neighbour who sold him to another family in Henan province, more than 1,770km (1,100 miles) from his home in Yunnan province. A video that was widely shared online showed Li’s hand-drawn map ,which police managed to match with a village where a woman reported her son’s disappearance. On January 1, 2022, they were reunited after 33 years of separation. Child abductions were once common in China partly because of the nation’s one-child policy imposed in the 1970s.
