Singapore is facing a chicken shortage after its neighbour Malaysia announced an export ban on chicken starting June 1, 2022. Singapore relies on Malaysia for about a third of its chicken meat imports. The ban has already pushed up the price of chicken in the country, and chicken rice stall operators in the city say that if they run out of fresh chicken, they will stop selling it. One chicken and rice stall owner said it’s like “McDonald’s with no burgers, or maybe Coca-Cola without Coke.”
