Japanese food businesses in Hong Kong said the impending ban on seafood imports from Japan will deal a huge blow to their earnings that may be worse than during the Covid pandemic. The warning came as Hong Kong officials said the city will suspend seafood imports from 10 Japanese prefectures if Tokyo goes ahead with its plan to discharge treated waste water from the Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea. The move followed mainland China’s decision to tighten its existing Japanese seafood ban.
