More than 4.5 million people living in India’s Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, rely on a protected embankment. Fuelled by climate change, more powerful cyclones have battered the coastal area recently. With the help of a local non-profit organisation and the West Bengal government, a project has been set up focusing on women with the aim of planting over 10,000 mangrove saplings in the area.
