India is preparing for its second attempt since 2019 to land an unmanned craft on the moon’s south pole on August 23, 2023. The Indian Space Research Organisation said the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft that blasted off on July 14 was on course to land. If everything goes according to plan, India will become the first country to land a spacecraft on the lunar south pole, and the fourth to succeed in a moon landing, joining the US, the former Soviet Union and China.
