Wind-fuelled wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui have killed six people, according to local officials, as flames force some residents to try to flee into the ocean.
Richard Bissen Jr — mayor of Maui County — announced the death toll in a morning news conference on Wednesday, as flames lashed areas like the historic Lahaina Town.

Flights and train services have been disrupted after Typhoon Khanun triggered heavy rain in southern regions of Japan and South Korea, just as another storm approached Tokyo ahead of the peak summer holiday season.
Khanun could make landfall at the southeastern South Korean port city of Tongyeong on Thursday, before tracking up the Korean peninsula, authorities said on Wednesday.

Pakistan’s parliament is set to be dissolved to prepare for a national election without former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been jailed and barred from politics for five years.
Khan’s successor, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, wrote to President Arif Alvi on Wednesday, calling for the dissolution of the National Assembly, the lower house of parliament.
