The Pakistani government has increased the cost of the annual haj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca as the Muslim-majority nation reels from an economic crisis. Though the pilgrimage is a once-in-a-lifetime mandatory religious duty for able-bodied Muslims, many now struggle to afford the trip.
