A week of heavy fighting has killed dozens of people in eastern Syria.
Arab tribes in Deir Az Zor province say they are determined to run their own affairs.
The area is controlled by the SDF – the Kurdish-led Syrian Defence Forces are allies of the United States.
American diplomats are trying to broker a ceasefire-and are warning of what they call the dangers of outside interference.
