Farmers in China’s Henan province harvested over 80 per cent of the winter-sown wheat by June 13, 2023, after heavy rains threatened the supply of the staple food.
Weeks of wet weather have caused blight and the crop to sprout before harvest, forcing
authorities to take “extraordinary measures”, including by urging insurance providers to cover damage.
