Europe COVID hospitalisations rise as workforce is stretched

Global coronavirus cases have been hitting new daily records.
The US is the worst affected, accounting for nearly one in three cases in the world.
Europe is also seeing an enormous rise in cases, with Italy, France, Spain and the UK all reporting record daily infections in the past week.
Stricter containment measures mean New Year’s celebrations in these countries will be muted.
