Several accidents on Hong Kong roads involving elderly taxi drivers in 2023 have sparked public debate on whether stricter medical requirements or even an age limit should be imposed on commercial drivers. Wong Po-keung, who is still driving his taxi after 55 years, said elderly taxi drivers help ease Hong Kong’s labour shortage. The 76-year-old cabby said the public should not discriminate against senior drivers because of their age, but rather consider the attitude of individual drivers.
