Rival factions battled across the Libyan capital Tripoli on August 27, 2022. The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) under Prime Minister Abdulhamid al-Dbeibah is fighting a rival administration under Fathi Bashagha, who is backed by the eastern-based parliament. After two years of relative peace, the months-long political stand-off between the two parties threatens to escalate into a wider conflict.
