The village of Chinese Olympic diving star Quan Hongchan has been closed to visitors following hordes of visitors arriving in the diver’s hometown. Quan has sparked excitement across the country after winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and news about her humble beginnings spread on social media. Her popularity led to thousands of fans from across the country to visit her home in the southern city of Zhanjiang ahead of Quan’s return. But the large crowds have also raised concerns about the spread of Covid-19, prompting authorities to close off the village to visitors.
