China will reopen its borders and abandon quarantine beginning January 8, 2022, in line with its decision to downgrade the way it treats Covid-19. The move will end three years of zero-Covid and help the country pivot to living with the virus. Strict measures, such as compulsory quarantine for overseas travellers, are set to be removed, while the border between Hong Kong and mainland China is expected to reopen soon.
