Pakistan’s Karot Hydropower Station has begun storing water since construction started six years ago, helping to cut the country’s carbon emissions by 3.2 million tonnes every year. Sitting along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the project is the first to be financed by the Silk Road Fund, which is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The news comes at a key time as doubts have been raised about CPEC’s financial viability. China and Pakistan, however, have reiterated their support for the projects.
