The bodies of residents who have died from Covid-19 are being stored on gurneys in hallways or beds inside accident and emergency departments at public hospitals as mortuaries approach capacity in Hong Kong. A source has told the Post that officials are considering storing bodies in refrigerated containers if the situation calls for it. The news comes as Hong Kong reported a record 34,466 new infections and 124 more deaths, on February 28, 2022. The city’s health secretary also said officials are not ruling out imposing a lockdown when it begins its compulsory testing scheme in March. In a recorded speech broadcast on Hong Kong television, the city’s leader Carrie Lam announced the government’s plans to secure more isolation rooms and beds for infected residents.
