Russia has resumed its attack on the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, according to a Ukrainian official quoted by Reuters.
Thousands of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians are holed up in the besieged Azovstal steel plant. The resumption of the Russian attack has come days after President Vladimir Putin ordered his generals not to storm it, Ukraine has said.
The mayor’s office in Mariupol says an attempt to evacuate more civilians failed on Saturday because of Russian shelling.
