At least one person died and 79 others were injured when a 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Taiwan on September 18, 2022, rattling bridges, buildings and cracking roads across the country. The epicentre of the quake was near Chishang township, but was powerful enough to damage the ceiling of a badminton court 300km (190 miles) away in the northern municipality of Taoyuan, where at least one person was injured. Dramatic video of the ceiling collapse shows players running for their lives as the earthquake struck.
