At least 129 people were killed and nearly 200 were injured during a riot and stampede at a football stadium in Indonesia on October 1, 2022. Fans angry about th outcome of a match had invaded the pitch and police responded with tear gas triggering the deadly crash at Kanjuruhan stadium in the eastern city of Malang. Fans of Arema FC reportedly stormed the pitch after their team lost to their bitter rival Persebaya Surabaya for the first time in more than 20 years.
