1 dead, 6 injured in oil tanker explosion off Hong Kong

A Panamanian-registered oil tanker exploded some 300km (186 miles) east of Hong Kong waters, leaving one dead and six others injured on April 16, 2022. The 120-metre (394ft) vessel, the Chuang Yi, was carrying about 13 crew members at the time of the blast. Two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft from the Hong Kong government were sent to the scene of the explosion. According to Hong Kong authorities, the one fatality occurred before rescuers had arrived, while a fire that broke out following the blast had also been contained.
