Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for an immediate ceasefire and a halt on civilian attacks in Gaza. Xi’s first public speech on the conflict since war broke out on October 7, 2023, were made during a virtual Brics leaders summit. The Chinese leader delivered his speech right before Israel and Hamas announced a four-day truce that includes the release of 50 hostages in Gaza.
