While hopes were high that Hong Kong’s retail sector would roar back after pandemic-era restrictions were lifted in March 2023, the reality has been disappointing. Vacancy rates, while improving, remain stubbornly high compared to pre-pandemic levels. Hundreds of barren storefronts can still be found in shopping districts such as Mong Kok.
