President Kais Saied’s freezing of Parliament had followed mass protests with much of the anger directed at the Ennahdha party for its handling of the economy and a raging pandemic.
Some see President Saied’s decision as a necessary intervention, where Parliament had failed the people.
Others fear it’s an unconstitutional power grab that could lead to a dictatorship – a move that would see the end to the Jasmine revolution that paved the way to a decade of democracy.
