US Vice-President Kamala Harris met with Japanese semiconductor executives during her trip to attend the funeral of assassinated former prime minister Shinzo Abe. She touted the benefits of a recently passed subsidy law, which aims to attract investment in American chip manufacturers and compete with China’s market dominance. While in Tokyo, Harris also condemned China for what she called “disturbing” behaviour in the Taiwan Strait. Beijing responded by reminding the US to abide by the one-China principle.
