The Covid-19 pandemic has devastated one of the busiest tourist spots in New York City: Manhattan’s Chinatown. But the manager of the local 46 Mott Bakery is doing everything he can to keep not only his store, but the entire neighbourhood afloat.

Patrick Mock leads volunteers who have been braving rain and snow to deliver free meals for homeless and elderly residents in the area every night.

The 27-year-old also came up with the idea of “Light Up Chinatown”, a project to hang hundreds of festive lanterns above Mott Street in hopes of encouraging people to safely visit the historic district.

Describing himself as a “proud Chinatown kid”, Mock says he no longer works just at his shop, but also “for the community” where he was born and raised.
