South Korea suspended its 2018 peace pact with the North on June 4, 2024, resuming military activities near the demarcation line separating the border between the two Koreas. The resumption was sparked by the arrival of nearly 1,000 balloons loaded with trash, including excrement reportedly sent across the border from North Korea.
