Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte flew to Zamboanga City on July 5, 2021, to visit the soldiers who were injured in a deadly military plane crash. A C-130 Hercules transport plane with 96 on board bound for a counter-insurgency operation, overshot a runway on the southern island of Jolo. The aircraft burst into flames, killing more than 50 people, including three civilians on the ground.
