Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang made a surprise visit to Beijing on April 17, 2025. His meeting with Ren Hongbin, the head of the state-backed China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, came a day after the US chip giant disclosed that Washington will require a licence to export its H20 chips to China. Nvidia said the US policy change will cost the company US$5.5 billion. The new licence requirement is the latest tit-for-tat move as Beijing and Washington lock horns in a tariff war.
