North Korea said its launch of a new military reconnaissance satellite failed on May 27, 2024, when a newly developed rocket engine exploded in flight. It was the latest setback for Pyongyang in its efforts to send a second North Korean spy satellite into orbit. Two previous attempts ended in fiery crashes in 2023.
