Kyu Kyu Thin is an ethnic Chinese woman who lost her 17-year-old son in an anti-coup protest on March 14, 2021. The grieving mother urged her fellow citizens not to compare Myanmar’s ethnic Chinese with Chinese nationals, who have been targeted during recent unrest. Anti-China sentiment has been growing in the country among protesters, who accuse Beijing of remaining silent about the February 1 Myanmar military coup and crackdowns on dissent.
