A five-year-old boy trapped in a well in the village of Ighran in northern Morocco has died before rescuers could save him. Rayan Awram fell down the 32-metre (105ft) well on February 1, 2022. After four days of rescue efforts watched around the world, the boy was found dead on February 5, 2022. Morocco’s King Mohammed VI called Rayan’s parents to offer his condolences. The tragic conclusion to the days-long rescue mission has triggered an outpouring of sympathy online and beyond.
