Japan officials announced that no radioactivity was detected in tests conducted on seawater off the Fukushima power plant on August 23, 2023. The announcement came three days after Japan started releasing treated radioactive water from the Daiichi nuclear plant. On the same day, Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) organised its first media tour to observe the water release operation on site. This came as concerns persist locally and abroad about the safety of releasing treated water into the ocean.
