Tobacco farmers in the village of Karanganyar in Indonesia’s Central Java province have to trek 8km (5 miles) for unfiltered water. The area in Central Java has seen no rain for four months. Villagers have had to dig for water along the riverbed to meet their daily needs and it has been their only source of water for the past two months. The drop in water levels has dried irrigation canals, leaving local crops, such as corn and tobacco, withering in the heat.
