China’s National Day holiday is an annual week-long break starting October 1 that in past years has been the peak travel season when millions of people visit other parts of the country or go abroad. But in 2022, many Chinese, including residents of the capital Beijing, have dropped plans to leave their local regions because of the challenges of restrictions meant to control the spread of Covid-19.
