The world’s largest general election in India closes on June 1, 2024. Some residents on the “disappearing island” of Ghoramara believe the outcome will help determine the fate of their sinking homeland. The tiny, remote and ecologically sensitive island has been losing soil to erosion for the past two decades. If no solution is found, the island south of Kolkata is at risk of completely disappearing in just a few decades.
