US President Joe Biden called out Russia for launching a “brutal, needless war” against Ukraine on September 21, 2022, at the 77th United Nations General Assembly. He pledged US$2.9 billion in food aid to alleviate global shortages caused partly by the war.
“We are committed to our one-China policy,” Biden also said, adding that the US seeks to “uphold peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait”.
